Post-Katrina the Bay St Louis Bridge was erected with very special details, design and functionality in mind to withstand future storms with similar ferocity of Hurricane Katrina. This beautiful structure joyfully united people of the MS Gulf Coast bringing both counties back together in celebration of new beginnings.
This bridge, built in record time, is adorned with artwork, lighted and has a walking, biking and running path along side enabling all to enjoy the true beauty of this structure. No longer just a transportation tool but a proud monument marking the extraordinary strength of the people througout their loss, survival and recovery.
As stated in the Sun Herald Newspaper, October 20, 2008: The Bay St Louis Bridge was awarded The People's Choice Award given by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
"We salute our many partners in the reconstruction process, and most importantly the resilient people of Bay St. Louis, Henderson Point, and the surrounding Mississippi Gulf Coast communities," Brown said. "The beautiful bridge carries U.S. Highway 90 traffic between Henderson Point and Bay St. Louis. This beautiful structure brings us one step closer in rebuilding lives better than before."
The bridge was built using a "design build" contract, which allows some of the bridge to be designed as it is built. It was completed in November 2007. |
